Some time ago I stumbled upon
this webpage, which lists a couple of extraordinary travel destinations.
One of them catched my attention: The so-called "Crooked Forest" near Gryfino in Poland. Now, it certainly isn't the most spectacular on that list. But it has one special feature which makes it interesting for me: From where I live (Berlin) it's not very far. So recently I went there by train and bike and had a look.
The Crooked Forest are a couple of pines that grow in really weird shapes, as you can see in the picture on the right. It is not entirely certain what the reason for those weird-looking trees is. Wikipedia has some information, which - interestingly - is different in the
english and
german article about it.
